History of the Pin Frog

A handy device that has been around since the mid 1800’s, the pin frog has been one of the most helpful tools for florist when creating an arrangement. The purpose of the frog is to hold flowers firmly in one place. More commonly known as a flower frog, they are made with materials such as metal, plastic, or ceramic.

Frogs are traditionally kept in a round shape. This allows them to sit nicely at the base of a vase or bowl and for easy maneuvering when placing flowers.

Florist and floral designers love using pin frogs because of there eco-friendly component. Unlike some flower holders that are only good for a one time use; the pin frog is easy to clean and reuse for future projects.

We carry four different sized metal pin frogs ranging from 1”, 2”, 3” & 4” wide that are covered with rows of spikes. Our frogs have some weight to them which makes them terrific for submerging in water, gravel, river rocks or fire glass.

DESIGNING WITH PIN FROGS

STEP 1: Choose the vase, cylinder or bowl you would like to use for your arrangement and set aside with the flowers you will be using. Select a pin frog that will fit into the vase you’ve selected. Cut the stem of the flowers until they reach the length you desire. Place the frog into the vase and begin to stick the flowers one by one into the spiky surface of the frog.
